Let me take you back a few years. At the time I was renting a house with two friends. I didn't feel the need for much in the way of a gun safe since both are now shooters. I introduced both of them to the joys of empty wallets and guns. However I was concerned about one of the guys girlfriends who had a young daughter. So off I went to find an electronic drawer safe for a handgun. Criteria was 1. curious kid proof. 2. easy access 3. CHEAP (I was only working part time)


I found THIS:

at ~$30 it should work.

I should have known things would end badly when the first safe's hinges where coming off the back. Back it goes for a second safe. That one did fine......until recently.......Now the electronic lock is really messed up. I can open it with the bypass key. But at this point if I needed to access a gun for the thump in the night? FAIL.

It is now replaced by a GunVult model *REDACTED*. (Actually I have a couple of their products.)

My choice was heavily influenced by this video:

It is a presentation at DEFCON 15 on off the shelf gunsafes.
The gunvault model he had was difficult to break into with the exemption of the weakpoint of the conventional keyed bypass lock.

Conclusions: The first alert or similar safe is ok if your concerned about curious kids and are looking for a quick access safe RIGHT NOW. Plan on replacing it in a few years. Otherwise I would save the inevitable frustration and get a GunVault They have everything from a small car safe to larger drawer models.

STAPLE ALL THE THINGS!

You know you could be a "prepper" when this happens!

Your tissue box on your desk runs low so you bring in another box. Cubeneighbor runs out so you give her the box that's almost out. You get sick so you bring in a box of good lotion tissues. Then you find a spare new box you hid in your desk.

Realising that you now have THREE boxes of tissues at your desk when you are recovering from being sick

PRICELESS!

Local elections FAIL (WIN for local .gov)

For those that care all of the applicable levies passed. Due to local and county tax levies my property tax has now gone from ~3200/yr to ~3600/yr. THANKS...go die in a fire.....Enjoy the higher tax rates you just voted on ....don't mind me I'm just going to plot against all the renters that voted for it. Don't look all hurt and surprised when your landlord hikes your rent. The only signs I saw for the levies on my street are known rental units.


(Yes my tax rates are high thanks for noticing *fume* no I didn't choose...the house is inherited)

The way they are rolling out updates is getting to be like a welfare mom. Push them out then ignore them.

ONE City Council election.
Some county charter revisions/Housekeeping.

FOUR tax levies!

Parks, HHS (mental health), City Schools ($50 million! bond issue AND tax levy) and Port authority.
All wanting more of my money!
Oh and our city already has one of the highest property tax rates in the county(and state I think)!
That and the state no longer discounts local tax levies like these so that's an additional 12%? hit on every new tax that's passed!
