USA Today reports TSA to retest the body scanners.

Read it yourself. Warning will raise blood pressure.
USA Today story.

The MONEY paragraph.

In the past, the TSA has failed to properly monitor and ensure the safety of X-ray devices used on luggage. A 2008 report by the worker safety arm of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that the TSA and its maintenance contractors had failed to detect when baggage X-ray machines emitted radiation beyond what regulations allowed. They also failed to take action when some machines had missing or disabled safety features, the report shows.

Is that like the safty feature that is supposed to keep them from saving porn I mean pictures? Or is it the safty feature that is supposed to keep us from cooking like a microwave dinner?

HEY RECOIL JUNKIES!!

Laserlyte sights for Ruger mkII

This is the first part of my long overdue review of the Laserlyte rear sight/laser for the Ruger mkII. The gun it's on is a target model that has at some time been refinished. Pictures where taken using my phone.

The sights where provided as a giveaway by our good friend JayG. See the sidebar for a link to his blog. Laserlyte gave him a bunch of their sights for him to review.

Here are some pictures to oogle.

Comparison of the sites compared to the stock target sights.

Sights with laser off.

And with the laser on.

The Sights have both a on and a strobe/flash mode. My impressions are so far positive. The only gripe I have so far is that the instructions on how to adjust point of impact are backwards. This is my noob gun that I try to have all the people that I introduce to shooting start on. The laser might make things easier.

I am of the group that believe that a laser is of little utility on a combat handgun. The mkII does not fit into that description being a target model and it's chambered in .22lr. However the laser does make any flinching or movement of the gun when you are squeezing the trigger more apparent.

Next episode: Playtime!

NOTE TO THE FCC:
Yes this laser was provided free for review to another blogger. No I have not yet received my wheelbarrow of money from the NRA. Would you please look into that?

Trying to keep this blog out of rant of the week territory but this must be shared.

A while back big government in their typical wisdom dictated that all new gas cans had to have new spill proof caps. I needed to replace a 5gal can that my uncle "lost" so I got a new can with a new lid. Forewarned that the new caps where not that great little did I know the absolute FAIL that they are.

In short I used it for the first time today...I spilled gas all over myself ...to the point that my housemates where complaining. Tried resealing or tightening the cap, every friggin time it leaked. Ended up using one of my old can's lids to get the gas actually into my car instead of on the car and me.

And the extra stab and twist...the new caps nearly doubled the cost of the cans.

Typical government. And they want to run health care? *facepalm*

John Kerry dodges Mass. Taxes (Big Supprise)

Sen John Kerry(not president *whew*)dodges a half million dollar tax bill by hiding his multimillion dollar yacht in Rhode Island.

Another example that they expect you to pay the taxes they pass. And that taxes don't apply to them. In other news I think this qualify him to be appointed to the Obama cabinet!

Boston Herald news story

UPDATE
He has agreed to pay the taxes....NOW THAT HE HAS BEEN CAUGHT...expect him to serve no jail time.

Obama skips 100th Boyscout anaversary Jamboree for some fundraising.

I can't say that this is a surprise. After sending Biden to place the wreath on the tomb of the unknown (the FIRST president not to do so).

Reinforces his viewpoint on American traditions. On the other hand he's not desecrating things certain people hold to be sacred. Could be a hidden bonus?

Oh and the icing on the cake? Obama as president is the honorary president of the BSA.

City can't afford real police. CAN afford recycling police.
Cleveland.com Link

I was driving home the other day and noticed they are putting red light cameras a few blocks from where I live. My city can't afford garbage pickup and is now billing the residents. BUT they can afford traffic cams. I bet it's for safety and not revenue. Can't be that...
For those that still think that traffic cameras are for safety. They have proven that cameras INCREASE accidents at those intersections.

On a snarky note. I wonder how many times a PD cruiser is going to be caught by those cameras. They just put in a 24hr Dunkin Donuts on that corner!

And further GOVERNMENT FAIL!
My Dad recently passed and I get to try to deal with the estate. I noticed today on his death certificate...box thirteen...... Deceased of hispanic origin? ......WTF BATMAN! this is OHIO,

THE Breda Fallacy

Warning! Check all utility bill notices CLOSELY!

Recently we have gotten notice that they are putting through utility aggregation in our area. How this works is they collect your account with a bunch of others then shop for "lower" utility rates. How it usually ends up is you are paying your local utility for part of your bill and another utility for the rest. What they DON'T tell you is that you end up paying MORE for what the second utility provides than just going with all local/One company.

Case in point Local utility "apples to apples" comparison price is 6.5 cents/kwh. The fine print on the aggregation notice I just got is at a rate of 7.2 cents/kwh for the next two months and 6.2 after that. Of course not guaranteed. Also being SNEAKY the next two months are the hottest, and that means air conditioning. So the high usage months are at a higher rate and you don't see any savings until it gets colder.

What infuriates me is that it's opt-out. Meaning you have to SEND THEM A LETTER to tell them to leave you the hell alone.

UPDATE
I've since recieved more opt out notices. I think they send them out every few months to trap those that opted out *FUME*

Another goverment FAIL!
